David Kirby has been trading in Cricket, Bradman, Rugby Union and Golf material for more than 25 years.
Over this time he has become the leading supplier in Australia and Overseas for philatelic material based
on these sports. Naturally, this has progressed to other related memorabilia such as cards, coins etc.
In 2002, when UK Cricket Dealer Mel Brown finally decided to retire, David purchased the Cricket New Issue
business and stock from Stamp Publicity (Worthing) Ltd. By combining the Stamp Publicity clientele with that
of David Kirby Sportsworld, it means that an efficient New Issue Service on a Standing Order basis is provided
to clients around the world for Mint & Used Stamps and First Day Covers.
While Mel Brown has now retired from trading, he does continue to update all cricket new issues on his
excellent website at www.cricketstamp.net.
Though not absolutely everything is in stock, a huge range of the material shown on www.cricketstamp.net is
available from David Kirby Sportsworld. Enquiries and Want Lists are therefore welcome, or check out my own
Catalogue section on this website (available from the Home Page) for prices, subject to current stock
availability.
David emigrated to Australia with his family in 1968 after initially being educated at Clifton College in
Bristol, England, where his interest in Cricket and Rugby Union began. On arrival in Australia David started
playing with Mt Eliza Cricket Club, where he played 280 senior games and was Secretary of the club for 7 years.
His involvement progressed to Association level where he held the position of Treasurer of the Mornington
Peninsula Cricket Association (MPCA) for 7 years until 1995. David cherishes his Life Membership of both
Mt Eliza Cricket Club and the MPCA.
A retail shop was opened in Frankston, Victoria, in late 1978 under the trading name 'Strand Stamp Centre.'
The shop remained in Playne Street until 1996 when, due to the increase in the mail order business, the
decision was made to focus on those clients, and the shop was closed.
From 1983 Cricket Souvenir Covers were produced under the
logo for
special events and international matches. Since 2003 all cricket and rugby covers are now produced under the
logo, therefore finally crystallising everything under the David Kirby
Sportsworld name.
The Business has been a continuous Member of the Australasian Philatelic Traders Association
(APTA) for the past 25 years. The APTA is part of the Australian Retailers Association, so
you can therefore place your orders with absolute confidence that all transactions will be
processed with due care and diligence. When placing an order, please refer to the
Terms of Business.
Initially this website shows general Cricket material as well as feature sections on Bradman and the 2003
Rugby World Cup. Over time there will be more expansive listings of other Cricket material, as well as Rugby
Union and Golf material.
